Next destination: Pakistan!

Dear friends and family,
The first update on my next MSF trip! Tomorrow I will fly out to Pakistan for my second project for MSF as a logistician in Chaman, Pakistan. After 4 weeks of rest in Holland and a great skiing trip to the French Alpes, it’s time to go into the field again. And Pakistan it is!
Chaman is the main border point for Afghanistan, and has a population of some 120,000, mostly Afghans. MSF cooperates with the Pakistani Ministry of Health in operating a medical facility. MSF is taking responsibility for the management of the maternity section, and to offer the full package of Safe Motherhood services, including ANC, PNC, birthing plus emergency surgery (c-section) capacity. The expat team will be quite small: 1 Obs/Gynae surgeon, 1 midwife and 1 logistician (me!). As logistician, I will again be responsible for transport and supply issues. In addition, I will assist in keeping an eye on the security situation and maintaining good relations to the various actors present in Chaman. Together with the 2 other expats, I will be living in a facility within the hospital compound. As soon as possible, I will try to post some pictures of my new home for the coming 9 months!
I really look forward to going out again. Before the last month I worked for the Somalia mission from Nairobi, Kenya, due to security restrictions. Although the remote-control structure for Somalia is of course useful and important, I look forward to really being on the ground again in Pakistan.

Ik ben ook net weer van mijn missie teruggekeerd: 8 dagen Turkije, ultra niks doen in een lekker zonnetje met veel drank en lekker eten!

Waarschijnlijk heb je het veel te veel naar je zin daar, maar mocht je in de buurt zijn dan ben je van harte uitgenodigd om mijn huwelijksfeestje bij te wonen! Pein en ik trouwen op 28 juni in Arnhem.
